AVR Mixes It Up with Arizona Builders’ Alliance

On Thursday, September 20, the candles were lit, the wine was poured and the technology was specially dialed in as AVR opened its doors to host the monthly ABA Mixer to networkers from around the Valley. With an approximate attendance of 100 individuals, AVR’s signature drink and great eats were consumed amidst a surplus of friendly chatter, hearty laughs, lively house music and great raffle prizes. This was AVR’s second year playing host to anABAmixer. Thank you to our guests, and the rest of the AVR team, for making it a two-time success!

The ‘Interconnectedness’ of AV with help from VidCAD

By Ryan Teal, AVR Design Engineer Connectedness is important in what we do at AVR.  After all, the heart of our business is to consult, design and install integrated systems.  The connectedness of these integrated systems is what gives AVR its value; we are the trusted team which brings those connections together into something that works for our clients.  Whether it’s a videoconferencing system in a boardroom or a massive tower of speakers in a stadium, it is the underlying connections in our systems which give our product value. Unseen by many, there is a series of spins, whirls, plugs and diagrams essential to the connectedness of AV. The “Ooohs” and “Aaaahs” of the 103” display or the crisp audio experience we get are simply the final bloom at the end of a supportive stem—and that stem is supported itself by an irreplaceable tangle of root systems. So how do we ensure that these connections are made properly on every project?  After all, there are a lot of people in the workflow from purchase order to project completion!  If you’ve ever played the game “telephone” you understand how a message can get garbled after just a few links in the chain.

Updates from the Organic Garden

Our resident “Euell Gibbons” provides this quarter’s garden update We have an organic garden at AVR, which is funded and cared for by the company, which brings the “fruits of our efforts” to be shared across our entire team. Since spring, we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying tomatoes, onions, chives and a handful of herbs. As any good Arizonan would know, the relentless summer months did take its toll gardens across the Valley, which included the lifespan of our cucumber, pea, oregano and spinach residents—even with a trusty 50% shade cloth! The great news is that our shade cloth and frequent watering did allow us to keep several of the tomato plants, all three of the pepper plants and a basil plant through the summer months. In the last month, all three of these varieties have especially come back for us to enjoy.  Fresh jalapeños are picked every day by daring AVR omnivores too, and many of our teammates pick leaves of fresh basil on their way out of the office to use in their kitchens that night.. We have noticed that the most popular items in the garden are those that are used as seasonings. With the arrival of autumn

Now, that’s a ton of food!

Jovita Roberston, AVR Inside Sales Support Coordinator, retells AVR’s memorable food drive of 2012 When I volunteered to organize this year’s event, I knew I wanted to do it a little differently – add a little extra fun and excitement to what the traditional food drive incorporates.  Being the newbie to the team I wasn’t sure how AVR typically organized their food drive, so I spoke with a few veterans to catch me up to speed. After reaching out to the Phoenix Rescue Mission to confirm the items they really needed, I started thinking ‘How can I get everyone involved?’ Not just because it is important and fulfilling to give back to the community, but also because it gives the AVR team the opportunity to grow and work together.  Well, the best way to grow as a team is to work as a team, so I decided to form four teams.  They were randomly chosen, not by department, this way people had the opportunity to interact with others from departments they might not usually interact with.  Our four Directors (including our CEO Mark Temen) were to be the team leaders.  In order to inspire some healthy competition and team building there
